About [CT] Weighted Equilibrium Rail

The [CT] Weighted Equilibrium Rail, or WER, is designed to help traders identify where the market’s current weighted balance point is located. Instead of using a traditional moving average that gives each bar a fixed mathematical treatment, the WER builds a weighted sample of recent closing prices. More recent candles can receive greater importance, and candles with larger price ranges can also receive additional weight. The indicator then calculates a configurable weighted percentile from that sample to establish the Equilibrium Rail. This creates a dynamic reference level that reflects where recent market activity is concentrating rather than simply averaging price. An ATR-based volatility envelope is plotted above and below the rail to provide additional context for normal price movement around equilibrium. The result is a clean market-structure tool that helps traders quickly determine whether price is operating above equilibrium, below equilibrium, or close to a balanced condition.

Indicator Logic

How It Works

The Weighted Equilibrium Rail evaluates a rolling window of recent closing prices. Each price sample can receive two types of weighting: Recency Weighting When enabled, newer candles receive more weight than older candles. This causes the rail to respond more strongly to recent market behavior. Candle Range Weighting When enabled, candles with larger open-to-close movement receive more influence than smaller candles. This helps emphasize bars that represent stronger directional participation. The two weights are combined to create the final weight assigned to each price sample. The indicator then sorts the weighted price samples and calculates the selected Weighted Percentile Level. With the default percentile set to 50, the rail represents the weighted midpoint of recent market activity. The rail state is interpreted as follows: Bullish Rail — Price is trading above the Equilibrium Rail. Bearish Rail — Price is trading below the Equilibrium Rail. Neutral Rail — Price is essentially at the equilibrium level. The rail changes color based on these conditions. The indicator also calculates an ATR-based volatility envelope: Upper Envelope = Equilibrium Rail + ATR × Multiplier Lower Envelope = Equilibrium Rail − ATR × Multiplier The envelope helps define the normal volatility area surrounding the current equilibrium level.

Practical Application

Suggested Usage

The Weighted Equilibrium Rail is best used as a market-balance, directional-bias, and pullback-reference tool within The Traders Vibe trading process. When price is holding above a rising or supportive Equilibrium Rail, the market is generally operating on the bullish side of its recent weighted balance. When price is holding below the rail, the market is operating on the bearish side of equilibrium. The rail can also be useful during pullbacks. In a bullish environment, a retracement toward the rail may represent a test of market balance. In a bearish environment, a rally back toward the rail can serve the same purpose from the opposite direction. The ATR envelope provides additional context. Price near the rail represents a more balanced condition, while movement toward or beyond the outer envelope indicates greater displacement from equilibrium. The WER should be combined with trend direction, momentum, price structure, support/resistance, and other Traders Vibe tools before making an entry decision. It can be especially useful for answering three questions: Where is the market currently balanced? Is price trading above or below that balance? How far has price moved away from equilibrium relative to volatility?

Configuration

Settings and Configuration

The default settings provide a balanced starting point for most chart conditions. Rail Length — 50 Determines how many historical candles are used to calculate the weighted equilibrium level. A lower value creates a faster and more responsive rail. A higher value creates a smoother rail that reflects a broader section of market activity. Percentile Level — 50 Determines the weighted percentile used to establish the Equilibrium Rail. The default value of 50 represents the weighted midpoint of the selected price sample. Increasing the percentile moves the calculated equilibrium toward the upper portion of the weighted price distribution. Decreasing it moves the rail toward the lower portion. Use Recency Weighting — On Gives greater importance to newer candles. This keeps the rail more responsive to current market conditions. Use Candle Range Weighting — On Gives greater influence to candles with larger open-to-close movement. ATR Length — 14 Controls the ATR calculation used to determine the volatility envelope. ATR Multiplier — 0.30 Controls the distance of the upper and lower volatility bands from the Equilibrium Rail. Lower values create a tighter envelope. Higher values produce wider volatility boundaries. Envelope Width — 1 Controls the visual thickness of the upper and lower envelope lines. Show Equilibrium Rail Displays or hides the primary WER balance line. Show Volatility Envelope Displays or hides the upper and lower ATR bands. Fill Envelope Controls whether the area between the volatility bands is shaded. Rail Colors Bullish, bearish, and neutral rail colors can be customized independently. For most users, I would keep the starting configuration at Rail Length 50, Percentile 50, Recency Weighting On, Range Weighting On, ATR Length 14, and ATR Multiplier 0.30 until there is a specific reason to make the rail faster, slower, tighter, or wider.
