About [CT] Impulse Anchor Bar MTF Detection indicator

The [CT] Impulse Anchor Bar MTF Detection indicator is designed to identify candles that represent unusually strong directional movement and turn those candles into structured reference zones for future trade analysis. The indicator can detect impulse bars using several different methods, including percentile-based candle body size, percentile-based total range, ATR expansion, or average-range expansion. A basic impulse candle can then qualify as a True Impulse Anchor Bar (True IAB) when additional structure and close-location requirements are satisfied. Bullish True IABs require strong bullish positioning and a break above prior structure, while bearish True IABs require the opposite. The indicator can display both: Local IAB Zones — calculated from the current chart timeframe. Higher-Timeframe True IAB Zones — calculated from a separately selected timeframe and projected onto the current chart. The default higher timeframe is 60 minutes. Each detected zone can include the original anchor high and low, 50% and 61.8% retracement levels, and a shaded retracement area. This gives traders a visual framework for identifying areas where price may pull back, react, or resume the original impulse direction.

Indicator Logic

How It Works

The indicator begins by determining whether the current candle qualifies as an Impulse Bar. There are four selectable impulse-detection modes: PercentileBody Compares the current candle body with historical candle-body percentiles. PercentileRange Compares the current total candle range with historical range percentiles. ATR Requires the candle range to exceed a selected multiple of ATR. AvgRange Requires the candle range to exceed a selected multiple of average candle range. Once an impulse candle is identified, the indicator determines whether it qualifies as a True IAB. For a bullish True IAB, the candle must: Be a bullish impulse candle. Close sufficiently high within its range. Break above prior market structure. For a bearish True IAB, the candle must: Be a bearish impulse candle. Close sufficiently low within its range. Break below prior market structure. The default structure-break lookback is 10 bars. The default bullish close requirement is 70% or higher within the candle, while the bearish requirement is 30% or lower. Anchor Zones Once a qualifying impulse candle is detected, the indicator creates a zone from the candle. The anchor can be based on either: High / Low or Open / Close (Body). Within that zone, the indicator calculates: 50% retracement 61.8% retracement The orientation is adjusted correctly for bullish versus bearish zones. For bullish impulses, retracement is measured downward from the top of the candle. For bearish impulses, it is measured upward from the bottom. The area between 50% and 61.8% can also be shaded to create a clearly visible reaction zone. Zone Invalidation Zones remain active until they are violated. The user can choose between: Wick Invalidation A wick through the opposite boundary invalidates the zone. Close Invalidation Price must close through the opposite boundary before the zone is removed. When invalidation occurs, the indicator automatically deletes the associated lines, labels, and shaded zone.

Practical Application

Suggested Usage

The Impulse Anchor Bar MTF Detection indicator is best used as a price-structure, pullback-zone, and continuation tool within The Traders Vibe trading process. The first step is to identify a strong directional impulse. A bullish True IAB shows that buyers produced an unusually strong candle, closed near the upper portion of that candle, and broke prior structure. A bearish True IAB shows the opposite. Rather than chasing the impulse candle immediately, traders can use the projected IAB zone to monitor potential pullbacks. The 50%–61.8% area can serve as a structured retracement zone where traders watch for confirmation that the original impulse direction is attempting to resume. For bullish conditions: Bullish True IAB → allow price to pull back toward the zone → look for bullish confirmation. For bearish conditions: Bearish True IAB → allow price to retrace upward toward the zone → look for bearish confirmation. The multi-timeframe capability can be especially useful. A trader working from a lower-timeframe chart can display higher-timeframe True IAB zones to identify larger areas of interest while using local zones for more precise execution. A practical Traders Vibe workflow could be: Higher-Timeframe IAB → identify major directional zone Local IAB → refine immediate structure 50%–61.8% zone → watch for retracement Momentum / HLBO / Pulse / Scalp Engine confirmation → evaluate execution The indicator should be treated as a structured location tool rather than an automatic entry system.

Configuration

Settings and Configuration

The default configuration provides a strong starting point while allowing the indicator to be adapted to different markets and timeframes. Show HTF True IAB Zones — On Displays higher-timeframe True IAB zones. HTF Timeframe — 60 Minutes Sets the timeframe used for higher-timeframe IAB detection. Show Local Zones — On Displays impulse zones detected on the current chart timeframe. Impulse Detection Impulse Trigger — PercentileBody Available modes: PercentileBody PercentileRange ATR AvgRange Filter Large Candles — 0.70 Controls the required size ratio when using percentile-based detection. Percentile Lookback — 200 Determines how much historical candle data is evaluated. Percentile — 100 Uses the selected historical percentile as the comparison reference. ATR Length — 14 ATR Multiple — 2.0 Used when ATR detection mode is selected. Average Range Length — 20 Average Range Multiple — 2.0 Used when AvgRange detection mode is selected. True IAB Rules Structure Break Lookback — 10 Determines how far back the indicator checks for a structural high or low that must be broken. Bull Close Fraction — 0.70 A bullish candle must close at or above 70% of its anchor range. Bear Close Fraction — 0.30 A bearish candle must close at or below 30% of its anchor range. Levels and Invalidation Anchor Levels On — High/Low Can be changed to Open/Close (Body) if the trader prefers zones based only on candle bodies. Invalidate On — Wick Can be changed to Close for a more forgiving invalidation method. Visuals Shade 50–61.8 Zone — On Highlights the primary retracement area. Show 50% & 61.8% Lines — On Displays both retracement levels. Show Only Latest Active Zone — Off When enabled, only the most recent active local and HTF zones are retained. When disabled, multiple active zones may remain on the chart. Max Active Local Zones — 5 Max Active HTF Zones — 3 These settings control how many active zones the indicator retains. Candle Coloring and Labels Color Candles On True IAB — On Bullish and bearish True IAB candles can be given separate colors for immediate recognition. Label Zone Levels — On Displays the calculated 50% and 61.8% prices. Label Impulse Trigger — On Displays information about what caused the candle to qualify as an impulse, such as percentile ratio, ATR multiple, or average-range multiple. For most Traders Vibe users, I would begin with PercentileBody detection, HTF 60 minutes, Structure Break Lookback 10, High/Low anchors, Wick invalidation, and the 50%–61.8% zone enabled. This gives a clean combination of impulse detection, structure confirmation, and actionable retracement areas.
