About [CT] HLBO Percentile Momentum Oscillator

The [CT] HLBO Percentile Momentum Oscillator is designed to measure momentum relative to statistically derived price levels rather than relying on fixed thresholds. The indicator calculates the 75th and 25th percentiles of price over a selected lookback period, then expands those levels using ATR-based volatility adjustments. When price breaks above the upper percentile band, the oscillator enters a bullish regime. When price breaks below the lower percentile band, it enters a bearish regime. The oscillator then measures how far price is trading from the midpoint of those dynamic bands, expressed in ATR units. This creates a continuous momentum histogram that reflects both directional regime and the strength of price displacement. The indicator also integrates HLBO breakout structure. When the percentile momentum regime and HLBO direction agree, the histogram switches to darker bullish or bearish colors to show stronger alignment. This gives traders a quick way to see whether percentile momentum and high/low breakout behavior are working together.

Indicator Logic

How It Works

The indicator begins by calculating: 75th Percentile Level The upper statistical reference level based on recent price. 25th Percentile Level The lower statistical reference level based on recent price. ATR is then used to create dynamic breakout boundaries: Upper Level = 75th Percentile + ATR × Upper Multiplier Lower Level = 25th Percentile − ATR × Lower Multiplier When price closes above the upper level, the oscillator enters a bullish regime. When price closes below the lower level, the oscillator enters a bearish regime. Between those levels, the previous regime is maintained until a new breakout occurs. The oscillator magnitude is calculated from the distance between price and the midpoint of the upper and lower bands, normalized by ATR. This produces a histogram where: Positive values represent bullish percentile momentum. Negative values represent bearish percentile momentum. The HLBO module independently tracks high and low breakout streaks using either full-bar highs/lows or candle-body breaks. When HLBO direction agrees with the percentile momentum regime: Dark Green = Bullish percentile momentum + bullish HLBO alignment. Dark Red = Bearish percentile momentum + bearish HLBO alignment. When the two components do not agree: Light Green = Bullish percentile momentum without bullish HLBO confirmation. Light Red = Bearish percentile momentum without bearish HLBO confirmation. An optional EMA filter can also be used inside the HLBO alignment logic so bullish HLBO conditions require price above the EMA and bearish HLBO conditions require price below it.

Practical Application

Suggested Usage

The HLBO Percentile Momentum Oscillator is best used as a momentum-regime and breakout-confirmation tool within The Traders Vibe trading process. The indicator helps answer several important questions: Is price operating in a bullish or bearish percentile momentum regime? How far has price moved from its dynamic equilibrium area? Is high/low breakout structure confirming that momentum direction? For bullish setups, the strongest visual condition is generally a dark green histogram, which indicates that the percentile momentum regime is bullish and HLBO breakout direction is also bullish. For bearish setups, dark red indicates alignment between bearish percentile momentum and bearish HLBO structure. Light-colored bars should be treated as partial confirmation rather than automatic reversal signals. They indicate that the percentile regime remains bullish or bearish, but HLBO is not currently aligned in the same direction. The oscillator can also help identify momentum persistence. Expanding histogram bars show increasing price displacement from the percentile midpoint, while shrinking bars can indicate that momentum is easing. The indicator should be combined with trend direction, price structure, support/resistance, and other Traders Vibe tools rather than used as a standalone entry system.

Configuration

Settings and Configuration

The default settings provide a balanced starting point for momentum and breakout analysis. Source — Close Selects the price source used for the percentile calculations. Length — 25 Controls the lookback period used to calculate the 75th and 25th percentile levels. Lower values create faster, more responsive percentile levels. Higher values create smoother, broader statistical reference levels. ATR & Mult Parameters ATR Length — 14 Controls the volatility measurement used to expand the percentile bands. mult_75 — 1.3 Controls how far the upper breakout level is placed above the 75th percentile. mult_25 — 1.3 Controls how far the lower breakout level is placed below the 25th percentile. Higher multiplier values require a larger price move before the oscillator changes regime. Lower values make bullish and bearish regime shifts more sensitive. HLBO Alignment HLBO Threshold — 3 Bars Controls how many breakout bars are required for HLBO directional qualification. Use Body Breaks — Off When disabled, HLBO uses the prior candle high and low. When enabled, HLBO ignores wicks and uses the prior candle body instead. Use EMA Filter — On Adds trend-direction confirmation to the HLBO component. EMA Period — 200 Sets the trend filter length used by HLBO alignment. Bullish HLBO qualification requires price above the EMA. Bearish HLBO qualification requires price below the EMA. Histogram Colors Bull Color Used when the percentile momentum regime is bullish but HLBO is not aligned. Bear Color Used when the percentile momentum regime is bearish but HLBO is not aligned. Bull Color — HLBO Aligned Dark bullish color used when bullish percentile momentum and bullish HLBO direction agree. Bear Color — HLBO Aligned Dark bearish color used when bearish percentile momentum and bearish HLBO direction agree. For most Traders Vibe users, I would start with Length 25, ATR Length 14, upper and lower multipliers at 1.3, HLBO Threshold 3, EMA Filter On, and EMA Period 200. Those defaults provide a good balance between momentum sensitivity and structural confirmation.
