About [CT] HL Break Oscillator MTF
The [CT] HL Break Oscillator MTF is designed to show when price is repeatedly breaking prior highs or lows and whether those breakout sequences are developing with supporting directional pressure. Rather than reacting to a single breakout, the indicator tracks the length and direction of consecutive breakout streaks. Bullish high breaks build positive oscillator values, while bearish low breaks build negative values. The oscillator can be calculated from the current chart timeframe or from a completely different timeframe, allowing traders to view higher-timeframe breakout behavior while trading on a lower-timeframe chart. An optional EMA trend filter can be used to qualify long and short conditions so bullish signals require price to be above the selected EMA and bearish signals require price to be below it. The indicator also contains an internal Pressure Confirmation module. This module evaluates smoothed open-to-close pressure and can normalize that pressure using relative volume. Pressure is not displayed as a separate plot. Instead, it controls whether the HLBO histogram uses a dark or light version of its bullish or bearish color. This provides a quick visual distinction between a breakout sequence that is supported by pressure and one where the two components are not aligned.

How It Works
The HL Break Oscillator begins by comparing the current close with the previous candle's high or low on the selected oscillator timeframe. With the standard setting: Bullish Break: Current close is above the previous bar's high. Bearish Break: Current close is below the previous bar's low. When Use Body Breaks is enabled, candle wicks are ignored. The indicator instead compares the close with the previous candle body's highest and lowest price. Each qualifying breakout increases its respective streak counter. For example: 1 bullish break = +1 2 consecutive bullish breaks = +2 3 consecutive bullish breaks = +3 Bearish sequences operate in the opposite direction: 1 bearish break = -1 2 consecutive bearish breaks = -2 3 consecutive bearish breaks = -3 The Threshold determines how many consecutive breaks are required before the long or short condition qualifies. With a Threshold of 3: Long Condition: Bullish streak reaches 3 or more. Short Condition: Bearish streak reaches 3 or more. If the EMA filter is enabled, the long condition must also occur above the selected EMA and the short condition must occur below it. The oscillator supports three behavior modes: Hold Run Length (Reset) Displays the current breakout streak and resets as the opposite direction takes control. Decay to Zero — Static When no new breakout occurs, the oscillator gradually moves back toward zero at a fixed rate. Decay to Zero — ATR-Adaptive When no new breakout occurs, the oscillator returns toward zero using a decay rate influenced by current volatility. The optional Clamp setting can restrict the displayed oscillator to the selected positive and negative Threshold values. Pressure Confirmation The internal Pressure Confirmation module smooths open and close prices and evaluates the difference between them. When volume normalization is enabled, that pressure is adjusted according to current volume relative to its EMA average. The pressure calculation itself is not plotted. Instead, it changes the histogram shading: Dark Green: Bullish HLBO direction + bullish pressure confirmation. Light Green: Bullish HLBO direction but pressure does not confirm. Dark Red: Bearish HLBO direction + bearish pressure confirmation. Light Red: Bearish HLBO direction but pressure does not confirm. In simple terms: Dark = Direction and pressure agree. Light = Direction and pressure are not fully aligned. Price candles can optionally use the same colors as the HLBO histogram.
Suggested Usage
The HL Break Oscillator MTF is best used as a breakout persistence, directional momentum, and confirmation tool within The Traders Vibe trading process. The oscillator helps answer several important questions: Is price consistently breaking highs or lows? How long has that breakout sequence persisted? Is the move occurring in the direction of the broader trend? Does internal pressure support the breakout direction? For bullish setups, traders can give greater attention to positive HLBO readings that are building above zero, particularly when the histogram becomes dark green, indicating that bullish breakout direction and pressure are aligned. For bearish setups, negative readings that continue extending below zero can show persistent downside pressure. Dark red provides additional confirmation that the bearish HLBO direction and Pressure Confirmation module agree. Light-colored histogram bars should not automatically be interpreted as reversal signals. They indicate that the breakout direction and internal pressure are not currently in agreement and may warrant additional confirmation. The indicator can be especially useful in a multi-timeframe workflow. For example, a trader can operate from a 1-minute chart while calculating the HLBO from a higher timeframe to determine whether shorter-term setups are occurring with broader breakout momentum. The Threshold can also act as a quality filter. Rather than reacting to the first high or low break, traders can require multiple consecutive breaks before considering the move established. HLBO should be combined with market structure, trend direction, support/resistance, momentum, and other Traders Vibe confirmation tools rather than treating every threshold event as an automatic entry.
Settings and Configuration
The default configuration provides a responsive starting point while allowing substantial control over breakout sensitivity and multi-timeframe behavior. Threshold — 3 Bars Determines how many consecutive high or low breaks are required for a qualifying long or short condition. Lower values identify breakout sequences earlier. Higher values require greater persistence before qualification. Oscillator Timeframe Leave the timeframe field blank to use the current chart timeframe. Select another timeframe to calculate the HLBO from that timeframe while continuing to display it on the current chart. This can be useful for higher-timeframe confirmation. Use Body Breaks — Off When OFF, the indicator uses the previous candle's complete high and low. When ON, candle wicks are ignored and the previous candle body is used instead. Body Break mode can help filter wick-based excursions that do not close beyond the prior candle's body. Trend Filter Use EMA Filter — On When enabled: Bullish conditions must occur above the selected EMA. Bearish conditions must occur below the selected EMA. EMA Period — 200 The default 200-period EMA provides a broader directional filter. Lower EMA lengths create a faster trend reference, while higher values create a slower, broader trend filter. Oscillator Behavior Hold Run Length (Reset) Best when you want the oscillator to directly represent the current breakout streak. Decay to Zero — Static Allows the histogram to gradually return toward zero when no new breakout occurs. Static Decay Step — 1 Controls how quickly the oscillator returns toward zero in Static Decay mode. Decay to Zero — ATR-Adaptive Uses current volatility to influence the decay speed. ATR Length — 14 Controls the ATR measurement used by adaptive decay. Adaptive Decay Factor — 50 Controls the responsiveness of the volatility-based decay calculation. Pressure Confirmation Normalize by Avg Volume — On Adjusts directional pressure according to current volume relative to its average volume. Average Volume Length — 12 Controls the EMA baseline used for volume normalization. Price Smoothing Length — 10 Controls the EMA smoothing applied to the open and close before directional pressure is calculated. Pressure Scale — 1.0 Allows the internal pressure value to be scaled without changing its basic directional logic. Because the current HLBO uses the sign of the Pressure Confirmation value for histogram shading, the most important visual information is whether pressure is bullish or bearish. Display Clamp Oscillator to ±Threshold — Off When enabled, histogram values cannot visually extend beyond the positive or negative Threshold. Leaving Clamp disabled allows long breakout streaks to continue displaying their full strength. Color Price Bars — On Colors chart candles using the same dark/light bullish and bearish logic as the HLBO histogram. The Signal EMA settings are retained internally in this version of the indicator, but the signal line itself is not plotted. Alerts The indicator includes alerts for: LONG Signal — Bullish streak reaches the Threshold and required filters pass. SHORT Signal — Bearish streak reaches the Threshold and required filters pass. Oscillator Above +Threshold Oscillator Below −Threshold For most Traders Vibe users, I would start with Threshold 3, EMA Filter On, EMA 200, Hold Run Length mode, Pressure Volume Normalization On, and Price Bar Coloring On, then adjust the oscillator timeframe and sensitivity to match the trading style and market being traded.
