About [CT] CFB Trend Filter

The [CT] CFB Trend Filter is designed to help traders determine market direction while adapting to changing price behavior and volatility. The indicator calculates a Composite Fractal Behaviour (CFB) value to estimate how efficiently price is moving. That information is combined with ATR-based volatility to dynamically adjust the distance of the trend filter from price. When market behavior changes, the filter can become more or less responsive rather than relying on one fixed setting for every market condition. The result is a visual trend framework that helps identify whether price is operating in a bullish or bearish environment, whether the current move is strengthening or weakening, and when price crosses the adaptive trend filter with directional confirmation. The indicator can also color price candles according to the current trend condition and display BUY and SELL labels when qualifying filter crossovers occur.

Indicator Logic

How It Works

The CFB Trend Filter begins with the selected price source and can optionally apply a 2-pole Ehlers SuperSmoother to reduce short-term market noise. A Composite Fractal Behaviour calculation then evaluates the efficiency of price movement across the selected CFB Range. The resulting CFB value is normalized and used to dynamically adjust an ATR-based filter range. Higher or lower CFB readings change the filter multiplier, allowing the trend filter to adapt to current market behavior. The Filter Drop Factor provides an additional control over how closely the filter follows price. The trend states are interpreted as follows: Strong Bullish: Price is above the CFB Trend Filter and the filter is rising. Weak Bullish: Price is above the filter, but the filter is not currently rising. Strong Bearish: Price is below the CFB Trend Filter and the filter is falling. Weak Bearish: Price is below the filter, but the filter is not currently falling. Neutral: Conditions do not meet one of the directional classifications. When candle coloring is enabled, these states are displayed directly on the price bars. A BUY signal occurs when price crosses above the CFB Trend Filter while the filter is rising. A SELL signal occurs when price crosses below the CFB Trend Filter while the filter is falling. The indicator also supports using the CFB calculations from either the current chart timeframe or a selected alternate timeframe.

Practical Application

Suggested Usage

The CFB Trend Filter is best used as a directional and trend-confirmation tool within The Traders Vibe trading process rather than as a standalone entry system. For bullish trading conditions, give greater attention to long setups when price is above the CFB Trend Filter and the filter is rising. Strong bullish candle coloring provides additional confirmation that price and filter direction are aligned. For bearish trading conditions, give greater attention to short setups when price is below the CFB Trend Filter and the filter is falling. BUY and SELL labels can be used as potential transition or confirmation signals, but they should be evaluated together with price structure, momentum, volume, support/resistance, and other Traders Vibe indicators. The CFB Trend Filter can also be used as a higher-timeframe directional filter. For example, a trader may display the indicator on a 1-minute chart while calculating the CFB trend from a higher timeframe to help keep shorter-term entries aligned with the broader trend.

Configuration

Settings and Configuration

The default settings provide a balanced starting point and should generally be tested before making major adjustments. Main Settings: CFB Period — 5: Controls smoothing of the CFB calculation. Lower values react faster, while higher values create a smoother response. CFB Range — 20: Determines how much historical price behavior is evaluated by the Composite Fractal Behaviour calculation. Larger values evaluate a broader market sample. Price Ehlers Smooth: When enabled, the selected price source is processed through a 2-pole Ehlers SuperSmoother before the CFB calculations are performed. CFB Source: Selects the price source used by the indicator. Timeframe Settings: By default, the indicator uses the current chart timeframe. Disable CFB Current Resolution to calculate the indicator from the alternate timeframe selected in the settings. Range Filter Settings: ATR Length — 14: Controls the volatility measurement used by the adaptive range filter. Min Filter Mult — 0.70: Defines the lower boundary of the adaptive ATR multiplier. Max Filter Mult — 2.00: Defines the upper boundary of the adaptive ATR multiplier. Filter Drop Factor — 0.35: Controls how closely the CFB Trend Filter tracks price. Lower values generally produce a faster, tighter filter, while higher values create more separation and reduce sensitivity. A range of approximately 0.25–0.50 is a useful area for experimentation. Visual Controls: Candle coloring, BUY/SELL markers, the displayed CFB value, trend-state colors, and filter colors can all be customized. The default settings are intended to provide a responsive trend filter, but traders should adjust sensitivity based on the instrument, timeframe, and trading style being used.
